I need to have a transformer built to my own specifications. What information do I need to provide?

In order to make a quotation we need the following information from you as a minimum:

The type of transformer you require

Available types:

Isolating transformer

Autotransformer

For further information about the different types: click here

Supplying network (primary)

  1. Voltage: from a few volts up to 1000V

  2. Network type: single-phase, three-phase star, three-phase delta …

Typical examples:

3x 400V Y+N

230V single phase

You can also indicate further options.  Depending on the circumstances it may be possible to make a choice between the options during installation.

For example:

230 – 245 – 400 – 415V

Receiving grid (secundaire)

  1. Voltage: from a few volts up to 1000V
  2. Network type: single-phase, three-phase star, three-phase delta …

The transformer can be provided with various secondaries.

Typical examples:

230V

2x 24V

230V – 24V

3x 400V Y+N

Capacity

We can build isolating transformers with capacities up to 630 kVA with three-phase types and 10 - 20 kVA with single-phase types.

The upper limit is on the same order of magnitude for autotransformers, but the precise limit depends on the voltage difference between the primary and secondary windings.

Where higher capacities are concerned we will need to investigate what is feasible on a case-by-case basis.

Note: Where there are several secondaries, please indicate how the total capacity is to be divided between the different secondaries.

IP rating

We can build transformers to

  • IP00
  • IP20
  • IP23
  • IP44
  • IP65
Further information about IP ratings can be found here.

Additional features

(if required)

In addition to the basic characteristics set out above we can also take the following extra features into account:

(frequently requested additional features at the top of the list, less frequent items lower down)

  • Low inrush current (for non-industrial applications). Further information.
  • Electromagnetic screening between the windings
  • Built-in protective devices
  • A specific housing (e.g. a mobile version with wheels)
  • Fitted with sockets, cables, electrical safety features, etc.
